THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT: Girls’ Hockey is Thriving at Sittingbourne Hockey Club

Following the fantastic success of our first ever junior girls’ team, the growth of girls’ hockey at Sittingbourne Hockey Club has gone from strength to strength.

We’re incredibly proud to say that we now have a huge number of girls coming through our youth system, with a massive up-take at Under 6s, Under 8s and Under 10s level. Week by week, more young girls are picking up a stick, making new friends, and discovering just how fun hockey can be.

For us, this is about so much more than sport. Hockey gives young girls a chance to belong to something positive, to stay active, build confidence, and become part of a supportive, safe community. The smiles, laughter, and energy we see every week show just how important this environment is - especially at a young age.

At Sittingbourne Hockey Club, we are committed to making hockey accessible to everyone. That’s why we’re proud to offer free weekly hockey training sessions and competitive games for all Under 12s, ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to get involved, regardless of background or experience.

WHEN IS JUNIOR TRAINING?

Our minis and juniors train every week:

📍 Location: Borden Grammar School

🕕 Day & Time: Mondays, 6:00pm – 7:00pm

(The Under 6s group is mixed and the Under 8s, 10s & 12s are seperate girls & boys sessions.)

These sessions are designed to be fun, inclusive, and welcoming — whether it’s a player’s first ever session or they’re already growing in confidence with stick and ball.

A CLEAR PATHWAY TO SENIOR HOCKEY

Crucially, we also offer a clear and exciting pathway beyond junior hockey. From the age of 13, girls have the opportunity to progress into our Women's teams, allowing them to continue playing, developing, and enjoying the game at a level that suits them — all within the same supportive club environment.

This pathway means players can grow with the club, supported at every stage of their hockey journey.

MEET SOPHIE - GOALKEEPER

One of the best examples of this pathway in action is Sophie.

Sophie’s development highlights exactly what is possible at Sittingbourne HC — from junior training sessions through to pushing herself at our dedicated GK training, improving week by week, and embracing the opportunities available within the club. JUNIOR TRAINING IN ACTION

Our Monday night junior sessions (for boys as well) are full of energy, teamwork, and smiles and the photos below capture that perfectly.

Whether it’s learning new skills, playing small-sided games, or celebrating great teamwork, these sessions are all about enjoying hockey and building confidence.

The future of girls’ hockey at Sittingbourne HC is incredibly exciting and this is only the beginning. We can’t wait to see these young players continue to grow, develop, and smash it.

Hello and welcome to Sittingbourne Hockey Club; the number one hockey club in Sittingbourne and Swale.

We are a Kent-based hockey club in the Borough of Swale currently running 5 senior men's teams and 3 senior women's teams with multiple junior teams as part of our ever growing Youth Academy.

We work closely within our community providing various sessions for all ages and abilities via our Hockey 4 All initiative.
