SITTINGBOURNE TOWN AND SWALE

Sittingbourne Hockey Club is the number one hockey club in Sittingbourne Town and the Borough of Swale. Sittingbourne and Swale are located to the north of the County of Kent in the South East of England.

Sittingbourne owes its name to a modernised version of an observation on its location. The town's name came from the fact that there is a small stream or "bourne" running underground in part of the town. With
evidence of settlement in the area before 2000 BC Sittingbourne is steeped in significant local Kentish and even national English history. Following the murder of Thomas O'Beckett Sittingbourne became the go between for pilgrims making the journey from London to Canterbury this even included royalty staying at the Red Lion PH on the high street.

In more recent times Sittingbourne is predominantly an industrial town with many local and large international businesses located in and around town. Sittingbourne has seen huge change over the past 20 years and is set for more expansion over the next 20 years with multiple housing and industrial
developments planned.

Whether a visitor or just moved to the area Sittingbourne provides an ideal base for walking, cycling, photography and other leisure pursuits. There's a myriad of historic houses, museums and beautiful gardens to enjoy the fresh air in fascinating nature reserves, unspoilt woodlands. or its world famous fruit growing orchards and hop fields.
