SHC hosted the third round of the Kent U8 and U10 hockey fixtures back-to-back on Sunday 15th January.

The U8s team:

The U8s team made their debut in the competition with the team being made up of U8 and U6 age groups - all playing for the first time together. They were great. They had lots of fun and showcased some great team play, behaviour and some stand-out individual efforts. Aiden Ruston scored 6 goals in total for the U8s. He also invented the chicken dance celebration, which became the go-to goal celebration. They grew as a team as the tournament progressed, getting a fantastic 6-1 win in their final game.

A number of players, who were nervous to start with, thrived in this environment and couldn’t get enough of it by the end.

The U10s team:

With over ten teams visiting from six different clubs across Kent, they came together to compete in a series of matches. These matches were in a format designed to increase participation and enjoyment in hockey. It was a fantastic display of youth development in sports for the local area (Sittingbourne and Swale) and also the county region.

All clubs, players and parents thoroughly enjoyed themselves and gave a good representation of what fun, competitive sport at minis and junior level should be.

If your child is interested to try hockey, then please don’t hesitate to contact us. We have an ever-increasing minis, junior and youth section, that run weekly training sessions from U6s to U16s. Your first session is free and we can supply all the necessary specialist kit; all you need to bring are some trainers and a positive can do attitude. At Sittingbourne Hockey Club, we strive to provide a safe, structured and enjoyable sporting environment, where children learn individual skills as well as how to play in as a team.
