Sittingbourne Hockey Club has been advised we have been shortlisted for the Swale Community Leisure Vision Awards. The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday 6th December at the Appleyard, Sittingbourne.
Over the past 24 months, Sittingbourne Hockey Club has worked tirelessly to make a change in the Swale Community.
The club, while successful in competitive hockey, had a desire to provide hockey for all walks of life. Here is a brief outline of what we have to offer and what we have achieved.
Bourne Flyers provides fun and friendly sessions, which are inclusive of all abilities and ages. It enables disabled and non-disabled players to play together. The Bourne Flyers sessions are Thursday evenings 19:00 to 20:00.
Walking Hockey allows those who are less mobile, returning from injury or those who want to remain fit and healthy, play a low impact sport to participate in hockey. This is a great opportunity to make new friends and enjoy a fun and social aspect of hockey with a hint of excitement. Walking Hockey is every Thursday 19:00 to 20:00
Partnering with Faversham Ladies HC has been an incredible project, allowing both clubs to flourish at a venue with amazing facilities. Faversham Ladies HC plays an important part of offering sport to women in Swale and both clubs have reeped the rewards for the 2023/24 season. SHC & Faversham have been able to recruit 30 new players - which has helped boost both clubs. Faversham Ladies HC training is Thursdays 19:30 to 21:00
Thank you to The Kent Nirvana Group who have played an integral part in allowing SHC to offer free hockey to anyone under the age of 16. SHC’s Junior Hockey section has seen an increase of players. Especially noticeable with our U8s who have 25 active players. It has also allowed players to return to the sport, whom may not have been able to if it wasn’t for the Free Hockey Programme.
U8s, U10s & U12s Training is Mondays 18:00 to 19:00. U14 & U16 Boys Training 19:30 to 21:00. U14 & U16 Girls Training is 19:30 to 21:00.
The club would like to thank its members and all the amazing volunteers who have either donated funds, coached, umpired and volunteered in other capacities as without you this club would not be successful in so many areas. The club will continue to put members and non-members at the forefront of its planning and to deliver outstanding hockey programmes to support all walks of life.
