SENIOR HOCKEY MID SEASON REPORT - A 7 PART SERIES - PART 3, THE MENS 2ND XI

Updated: Dec 27, 2022

Heading into the mid-season break, we take a look at the first half of the season of our senior teams. Today we delve into the Men's 2nd XI.

Season: 2022/2023

League: South East Hockey - Division 2 Invicta

Position: 3rd

Wins: 6

Draws: 3

Losses: 1

Points: 21

David Wherrell - Men's 2nd XI - Captain

The men’s 2nd XI had a blistering start to the season, remaining unbeaten until November. The side has been much more consistent, and this has paid dividends in helping to secure 3rd place in the league at the halfway stage with 21 points.

This is in complete contrast to last season where the team were third from bottom at Xmas!

Highlights of the season include bringing Ben Gunner up from the third XI in an effort to replace another young player who left for University. Ben is going from strength to strength and although unorthodox in his thought process, works his socks off for the team. Another high was our end of season team curry, and the fines session at the curry house. It was hilarious hearing some of the younger players take chunks out of the senior guys.

Our season low point is our loss to Holcombe at home which ended our unbeaten run and remains so far, our only loss of the season.
