Sittingbourne Hockey Club would like to announce Ian Jennings MBE as their new Men’s Performance Squad Coach starting this 2024/25 season. The signing of Ian Jennings is a huge step forward and show of clear intent on achieving success.
Ian will head up the all new coaching team as Head of Men’s Squad Performance and will be an integral part of the club's ambitious plans to drive Sittingbourne Hockey Club forward on and off the pitch.
Ian's CV speaks for itself - there are not very many coaches like him that have such a proper understanding of structure, fitness and what’s required to create a culture that nurtures and achieves success. Whether it’s playing or coaching hockey for his country or playing at high performance levels scoring over 260 goals or serving over 20 years in the military as part of the Parachute Regiment and a leading figure in the military physical training programme. Ian, himself a cancer beater, is a force of nature and will no doubt find success at SHC and we cannot wait for this journey to begin his relentless drive for success and energy will flow through the club.
Head of Performance at SHC Iain Burwood said, "This a marathon and not a sprint. We are under no illusion that success will not come straight away, it will take time. It's going to be a hard, hard journey that will require blood, sweat and tears from the boys. BUT hard work beats talent and we have a superb core group of players who will rise to it and reach their full potential."
As well as performance coaching, Ian will also be performing a Director of Hockey role working closely with our Head of Youth Hockey and Head of Hockey Development shaping the way we coach and play hockey at all levels. This will have a huge impact and will not only make the playing experience even more enjoyable but will uplift the playing standard right across the club.
Head of Youth Hockey Josh Mitchell said, "Ian is the missing piece to us finally giving our girls and boys from U6 to U16 the best coaching possible so that not only will we maintain our fun and inclusive mantra but it will enable those who have aspirations of achieving success and playing top level hockey have a clear pathway to our women's and men's performance squads."
Sittingbourne Hockey Club has achieved rapid growth within their Youth Section as part of their Hockey 4 All Programme where by ALL 4 to 15 year old players have access to free hockey every week. With absolutely nothing to pay, hockey can be enjoyed in a safe and nurturing environment.
Ian Jennings said, "I have been very impressed with Sittingbourne Hockey Club. They have a clear plan and behave very professionally behind the scenes with a performance coaching setup that is up there with top flight hockey. What I like is a project and the project at SHC is very very exciting indeed. I cannot wait to get stuck in and start this incredible journey... MARK MY WORDS THIS WILL BE A VERY DIFFERENT SHC WITHIN THE NEXT YEAR!."
If you have read this and want to be part of this journey in any way, whether it be a performance or club player or coach then don't hesitate to email us on info@sittingbournehc.co.uk everyone is welcome.
