HALES HEADS TO MASTERS WORLD CUP

SHC are thrilled to have a home grown talent representing England, at the Master World Cup in South Africa this August. Claire Hales will travel with the Over 50s England Team, where they will compete in Pool A against Argentina, South Africa, Ireland and Alliance International Hockey Club.

We caught up with Claire to find out a little more about her and her hockey career.

How long have you played hockey for and how May season have you played at SHC ?

I’ve played hockey for 35 years and have been with SHC (previously Rodmersham & OBHC) this whole time. I only had a few breaks when I had my kids!

Do you think your selection will have a positive impact on your ladies 1s team and how can you further support their success for this season?

Yes. I think it’s great to bring some experience, skills and knowledge to the team, that I’m learning from England training.

Is this your first time representing England ?

I was selected in 2019/2020 for the O45s. But it was postponed due to Covid. I am really excited to be selected again for the O50s and looking forward to finally playing in a tournament.

What are you personally seeking to achieve and as a team what goals have been set for the pool stages?

I personally am so excited to finally achieve my ambition of playing for England. The team includes many experienced National league players, from whom I have learned so much! We have been training and playing friendly games in preparation. Including trying different formations. We have amazing coaches including an ex GB player.

Do you have anything you might like to add?

Just to thank SHC for all their support over the years and for being a great club to play for.

Sittingbourne HC would like to wish Claire all the best at the Master World Cup.
